The Remnant returns to its quarantine schedule with long-awaited guest and (possibly) the most-ever cited legal scholar, Cass Sunstein. Cass and Jonah have a longstanding camaraderie that began with a shared love of dogs - a subject they may write a book about - but they also have an uncanny ability to discuss flaws and weaknesses in one another’s political priors that’s rare in modern debate. There’s dog talk, bonobo talk, and some rank nudgery on this episode, so it’s a great pick-me-up episode with a little bit of something for everyone.
Show Notes:
-Cass talking about the Russian Fox Experiment
-For Kant nerds: Christine Korsgaard’s deontological argument for animal rights
-Cass’ book on “The Cost-Benefit Revolution”
-Cass and Thaler’s “Nudge” theory
-Bound By Oath, the Institute for Justice’s 14th Amendment history podcast

I'm going to be honest, I spent a lot of years as a liberal Democrat, reading your columns and thinking I wasn't so sure about the cut of your jib. I think learning that you are a "charismatic mega-fauna guy" may have just changed everything for me.
I thought Cass Sunstein was the devil. Turns out he's totally reasonable. A very enjoyable episode and I really didn't think it would be and thought it a weird choice for a guest. Hat's off. You have once again filled the void, Jonah. I'm a high risk wise person (formerly known as old) and I do enjoy these pods as I am shelter in place and awaiting Spring.
